Boy Scout Camp2

Posted at 03:09 PM on July 10, 2009 Comments comments (0)

Did it have to rain while we were at Boy Scout camp? It just had to! We were soaked. I got to come home but two of the boys are still there until Sat. Hopefully it stops raining so they can dry out. They had a great time with activities and the food was pretty good too. Order of the Arrow ceremony is always very nice. They enjoyed water games. Blais was in 3 water games, balloon toss, seal float and pop can dive. He enjoyed watching the big splash the most. Great program for boys and seeing all the other troops is a great way to make new friends.

My husband David and I celebrated our 22nd wedding anniversary on the 4th of July. We always enjoy seeing the fireworks display. Nice to be with family and friends and BBQ.

Our three boys are off to Boy Scout camp for the week. I will join them for two nights at the middle of the week. The weather has been good and no rain yet since we are camping in tents. Our two older boys and myself received the Order of the Arrow and will help in the ceremony for the newcomers.

Chicago

Our famiy enjoyed time in Chicago with Grandma Susan in June. We saw the Field Museum, Science and Industry Museum, Planetarium, Zoo, Federal Reserve, Chicago Museum on free days. This is the way to go and see as much as you can. We took the advantage of the 3 day pass for the trains and buses. David is very good at mapping out where to go and how to get there. We ate at Superdawg and saw the original 9th McDonalds. Great time to spend as a family. We stayed at the Navy base north of Chicago. It is nice to have military privileges.

New study

Posted at 07:30 PM on June 06, 2009 Comments comments (0)

I have finally started research on the next Bible study. I am going to try to put together a study about the Old Testament. Hopefully it will include something about each book of the Old Testament. The plan is to organize it for a 12 week study like the others. Seems overwhelming but I feel God leading me to do this next. God equips those He calls to service. Keep me in your prayers as I study and write. Thanks! God is good, oh, God is great!!

Blais award

We are so proud of our 3rd son Blais. He won the Outstanding Academic Excellence award. (President's Education Award) It was signed by the president. He had to have 3.5 or better and also get at least an 85% on his Iowa Basic sills test. We surprised him when we showed up at the assembly. The 5th grade also had a talent show and Blais did string tricks.

Planting

We planted more flowers and tomatoes today. We also put up a tall flag pole. We cemented it in and added our names and year. Beautiful day to be outside.

Community Cupboard

Volunteered at the Community Cupboard on Friday morning. I help pack the food that is requested and then if needed carry the food outside for them. We had 134 families today! You can tell the the economy is bad by the increase of people needing the free food. I started over a year ago and we fed about 60 families. I pray that better times will come. Many people have lost jobs and need a little extra especially when there are 5 weeks in a month.

The kids had their last day of school on May 28th. They are excited to be home for the summer. Ryland will be a Senior this fall. He wants to join the Air Force. Mitchell will be a Soph. Blais will be in 6th grade which is Middle school here. Karysa will be in 4th grade. We are already enjoying the summer weather.

John Wesley

David and I are updating our slide show about the Life of John Wesley. We have given the power point several times with good responses.

We are now making it into a DVD. We hope that Methodist churches will buy it to use for their church. The DVD will be great to show at any meeting, use in Sunday School classes, use for Confirmation classes or new member classes. We think churches should know about John Wesley the founder of Methodism. We have learned much during our research. We just wanted to share what we learned with others.
